Last month, Remus Choi was caught by the police after driving out of control and crashing onto the pavement, ruining a postal box, railings and a fire stub. The incident happened on the 1st May. After the crash, Remus sustained injury on his arms but refused to go to hospital. When the police arrived, Remus took a breathalyser test. The results showed that Remus was over the limit. Over 100 ml, the device showed 82 micrograms of alcohol which is 22 micrograms over the legal limit. After Remus arrived at the police station, another test was taken and showed 66 ml of alcohol. He was later charged with drunk driving and driving without care and attention.


Yesteday, Remus and his family turned up in count for the hearing. Dressed in a dark suit, Remus stood in court as the case was analysed. Remus admitted to the two accounts of changes and later was pleaded guilty as charged and the court pointed out the case was serious.
The court addressed the severity of the incident and that Remus failed to stop after the car hit the postal box and continued a further 200 metres. Remus’s lawyer pointed out that the gas pedal was wrongly used, the fact that there was no evidence of Remus not stopping. Also with no previous crime record and 23 years of driving experience, his lawyer highlighted unfamiliarity user of a new car.


However, the court allowed Remus to be released on bail for $5000 HKD. The date of 24th June is given to hear about his sentencing.


After the hearing, Remus left the court after under bail conditions. When reporter approached him for comments, he just gave a small smile and said: “Thank you for your thoughtfulness.” Then he got into a car with his brother Calvin and sister in law and left.
