Earlier, there were reports that the mainland China leg of Jacky Cheung’s 2010-2011 World Tour Concert will no longer take place due to the money-swindling case involving one of the sponsoring companies. Yesterday, Jacky Cheung and concert manager Florence Chan held a press conference to clarify the situation. They confirmed that the money-swindling was the action of a former employee who worked for a company belonging to Florence Chan’s mainland partner and has nothing to do with her company in Hong Kong.
It is alleged that the former employee, Ms. Shum, used the name of Florence Chan’s company [香港天星娛樂] in Hong Kong to collect close to 17 million HKD in deposit from 16 mainland companies, claiming it was for Jacky’s concert to take place next year. Afterwards, she did not show any remorse and went further to announce to the public that she was “appointed by Florence Chan and her husband to collect the deposit.”
Yesterday, Florence Chan held a press conference to clarify the matter and invited more than 10 companies representing over 50 of mainland China’s sponsors to come support the event. In addition to her own statement addressing the issue, she also used TVB GM Stephen Chan’s ‘golden phrase’ “what is real cannot be false, what is false cannot be real” to describe that her company in Hong Kong is the ONLY organizer and distributor for Jacky’s upcoming 2010-2011 World Tour Concert. She also emphasized that Jacky’s concert in mainland China will definitely still take place.
In response to the issue, Jacky says that he knows Ms. Shum, since she is an employee of Florence Chan’s partner company in Beijing. He says: “If it weren’t for this situation, I would not be announcing the concert so early, as no preparations have been made yet; in fact, the name of the concert hasn’t even been determined yet.” Jacky also emphasized that doing a concert is not because he “needs money”, as he has already done a couple films recently: “I’m usually not a huge spender; I only need to pay my daughter’s tuition; plus I never let myself get into a dangerous situation when it comes to financial matters.” Asked about the income for his concert being equivalent to making over 10 films, Jacky laughed and said: “Doing 1 concert show is similar to me making the film "Hot Summer Days":.” He expressed that he has worked with Florence Chan since 1993 and knows that she has very good principles, so he will definitely support her.
Florence Chan used TVB GM Stephen Chan’s ‘golden phrase’ to clarify the matter and confirm her innocence; she laughed and said: “It is definitely a ‘golden phrase’; haha, I am pretty ‘current’ when it comes to these things!” She indicated that whenever her own company holds concerts in mainland China, a contract will always be signed first, then once the official approval documents are received, then the deposit is requested. When she found out about the actions of Ms. Shum, she immediately freezed her [Ms. Shum] personal account and notified the appropriate sponsoring companies to refund the money.
