TVB Extras went on strike after failed negotiations for higher wages. TVB urgently needs to find a solution to settle the issue and temporarily uses the students in the TVB acting class to be the Extras in the series. TVB Foreign Affairs director (Tsang Sing Ming) expressed yesterday during interviews with [The Sun] and iCable: "Actually TVB hopes to follow the original agreement regarding the Extras' wages. When the document confirms next week, the average wage per hour is HK$42. This already exceeds the government's minimum wage of HK$28 per hour. Because of the Extras issue the artist department adapted a new system, if there are any interested colleagues or their family or friends that want to be an Extra, they can register. The new set price is HK$180 for 6 hours. If over 6 hours, then there will be HK$28 per every extra hour. Of course, this does not affect the normal routine."
The newly implemented system is getting popular response. Yesterday, Macy Chan and Vincent Wong attended a program about loans and there were already many students from the acting class that registered. Macy and Vincent expressed that they know about the TVB Extras on strike. They admit that when they were shooting series, there were times where TVB acting class students or even directors and assistant directors were Extras.
Vincent said: "I heard Return to the Three Kingdoms had artists be soldiers and it was very difficult. I hope this issue can come to an end soon." The two laughed and expressed that if the Producer asked, they don't mind being a dead person: "I don't mind helping, just want everything to work out well."
