Earlier in the evening on May 30th, well-known HK entertainment radio show host Eileen Cha Siu Yan revealed the latest news about Nicholas Tse and Cecilia Cheung’s marital problems on her radio show. As a close friend of the Tse family, Eileen reveals that the couple’s marital problems were already existent prior to the HK Film Awards and the primary reason was due to money-related matters. As for the rumors about Nicholas and Cecilia separating, Eileen expressed that Nicholas has not sent Cecilia any legal letter yet – the reason Cecilia moved out of their home was because Cecilia was planning to sell the house for money.Below is the exact transcript from Eileen Cha’s radio show:
Eileen Cha Siu Yan: Actually, with regard to the ‘divorce’ rumors surrounding Nicholas Tse and Cecilia Cheung, I had already mentioned about it on my May 18th radio show, however at the time, because nothing ‘big’ had occurred yet, of course no one believed me. Who would have thought that now, less than 2 weeks later, the matter has already hit the surface.
In reality, the relationship between Nicholas and Cecilia was already rocky prior to the HK Film Awards ceremony – the reason why they put on the façade of still appearing to have a loving relationship and were constantly holding hands was to protect the best interests of their family. Their relationship got to this point [the brink of divorce] primarily because Cecilia would constantly argue with Nicholas over the pettiest of things, usually related to financial matters. However, there was a period of time when the arguments subsided – when Cecilia became pregnant, Nicholas decided to make amends and give in to Cecilia’s demands. Each time when Cecilia would request it, Nicholas would transfer ownership of real estate property that he owned to his wife’s name – he would do so by establishing a trust fund and transfer ownership for all his property to this fund. It turns out that the sole beneficiary of this trust fund is Cecilia Cheung. However, that didn’t stop Cecilia from continuing to argue with Nicholas over and over again, on a consistent basis. Even though Nicholas may display a ‘cool’ image in public, he would rarely ‘return fire’ whenever Cecilia went on one of her rants – each time, he would end up agreeing to Cecilia’s demands, transferring property after property to her name. Even the million dollar home that Nicholas had bought for his father Patrick Tse was transferred to Cecilia’s name!
In other words, in the future, if Nicholas and Cecilia really do divorce, Cecilia has every right to take back the house that Patrick is living in and ‘kick’ him out. But, seeing how loving Patrick is toward Cecilia, even more so than toward his own daughter, plus based on the number of times he has praised Cecilia in interviews with me, they seem to have a strong relationship. In fact, just recently, during an interview in the Mainland, Patrick stated that Cecilia is ‘the pride of the Tse family’ – with a father-in-law who is so good to her, it is doubtful that Cecilia would kick Patrick out.
Ever since Cecilia announced that she would be returning to the film industry, she accepted 5 to 6 movies all at once, with her salary for each rumored to be in the millions. Soon, Cecilia became busy with her filming while Nicholas was busy with his – as a result, the couple saw each other less often, however the number of times that they would argue over matters continued to increase.
Just when it seemed like all of Nicholas’ property was in Cecilia’s hands and there was nothing more to give her, Cecilia recently started asking Nicholas to sell her some of the shares to that lucrative post-production company that it was recently revealed he owned. At this point, it seemed as though Cecilia wanted to drain Nicholas of all his assets and property – when I heard these news about Cecilia, I actually didn’t really believe it myself. The reason being is that back when Nicholas and Cecilia reunited [after having dated and broken up years ago], Cecilia had called me and told me through tears how much she truly loved Nicholas and how scared she was that Nicholas would leave her. She had indicated that if Nicholas were to leave her, she didn’t know what she would do – therefore, at the time, I had hoped that everyone would give them blessings and accept their relationship. Now, 5 years later, Cecilia seems like such a stranger to me – it appears that I don’t know her as well as I thought.
Even though many of Nicholas’ good friends felt bad for him and advised him not to be so accommodating to Cecilia’s demands, Nicholas continued to heed Cecilia’s every whim all because of their two sons – basically, whatever Cecilia wanted, Nicholas would give her because of their children. Even if it ever got to the point that Cecilia would ask for custody of the boys, Nicholas would readily accommodate – he definitely would not battle with Cecilia in court over custody because he does not want his sons to be negatively impacted or hurt in any way.
Those close to Cecilia guess that she will probably take the boys to Malaysia to visit Nicholas on the set, then kneel in front of everyone and beg for his forgiveness, because this type of situation has occurred before. The production crew of the movie that Nicholas is currently filming in Malaysia fears the most that Cecilia really will do as mentioned – if that’s the case, Nicholas’ mood certainly won’t be affected much (since he is used to it), however all focus would end up falling on Cecilia rather than on the film itself. This is why right now, everyone is paying close attention to Cecilia’s every move in Hong Kong and wanting to know what she will do next.
Others guess that Cecilia may possibly announce that she is pregnant again with her 3rd child and that this would probably be front page news for a certain magazine. Think about it – if the wife says she is pregnant but the husband still divorces her, then at that point, Nicholas wouldn't just be suffering a ‘double loss’, but rather a ‘triple loss’ – loss of money, loss of family, and loss of his image. But it is still up in the air whether Cecilia will truly take this step [announce a pregnancy] or not.
Also, you may be wondering whether all of Nicholas’ property and assets have been completely transferred to Cecilia already? Actually, no. Seems like Nicholas still has some luck on his side – ever since Cecilia’s ‘meeting’ with Edison Chen on the plane occurred, Nicholas has put a stop to everything financially. Before that incident, there were documents already prepared awaiting Nicholas’ signature, however after the matter was revealed, he refused to sign any paperwork. Legally, Nicholas and Cecilia are still husband and wife, so they have not divorced yet.
Since Cecilia accepted 6 films and each one is paying her a huge salary, her focus at this point really should be on her work and doing a good job in these films – she should stop playing the ‘disappearance’ game and re-build her career instead. As for Nicholas – just when everyone is worried about how he may be feeling right now, he uses his own unique way to let everyone know that he is doing fine.
