With his healthy image, Raymond Cho and his family are constantly sought after by advertisers to film commercials targeted at families with children. Recently, Raymond’s wife Elaine Chiang and a friend of hers partnered up to open a children’s clothing store in the Central district. Naturally, Raymond and Elaine’s 3 year old son Brandon became a ‘promotional ambassador’ of sorts for the store, wearing various outfits from the store when on playdates and also helping out in the ‘visual’ department with his variety of cute poses for pictures and posters. Seeing his son’s cute poses, Raymond could not help but laugh: “We love taking pictures of Brandon! He definitely knows how to ‘chok’ for the camera – in fact, he looks just as ‘cool’ as me! Haha!”

Elaine, who is currently pregnant with a baby girl and is due to give birth next month (in June), expressed that she is not worried about her condition affecting the business: “Ever since Brandon was born, I’ve been wanting to do something (in terms of career) related to children. Earlier, a friend of mine had expressed interest in opening a children’s clothing store and coincidentally, both of us buy the same brand of clothing for our children – so we bravely sent an email to the representatives for that particular (American) brand asking about a possible collaboration. We were successful in our discussions and was able to get the exclusive distribution rights for that brand in the Greater China [China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macau] region. Even though I’m pregnant right now, I’m not worried, as there are a lot of people helping me with the business. Plus whenever Raymond is off [from work] he comes and helps me move boxes, do inventory, etc. – I’m pretty much only doing admin work right now.”

Raymond expressed that he doesn’t mind helping his wife, but he does have one ‘complaint’: “She works pretty late. One time, she was working at the store until midnight – I was worried that it might be too exhausting for her due to her condition, so I couldn’t help scolding her about it.” Even though she was scolded by her husband, Elaine was not upset at all – in fact, she didn’t mind being scolded, since her son Brandon ‘makes up’ for it: “Brandon is very sweet and loving towards me – every night, he kisses my tummy and tells me that he will take good care of his sister in the future.”

With regard to raising children, Raymond admits that it is not easy at all, as he doesn’t want to be too lenient, but is also opposed to being a ‘monster’ parent: “You have to be careful not to spoil children too much and maintain the right balance when it comes to discipline when necessary. Sometimes, when Brandon gets too naughty or out of control, I hit his hand very lightly. Both Roger [TN: fellow actor and good friend Roger Kwok] and I agreed that after our daughters are born, we will need to spend extra time with our sons so that they won’t feel overlooked or ignored.”
