Andy Hui talks about his relationship with Sammi Cheng

During a recent interview, singer Andy Hui was asked about the infamous "kitchen declaration" he made when he won the 2001 Best Male Artiste at the Jade Solid Gold Awards.

"That wasn't a declaration. It was a fact that came sincerely from my heart," he replied.

At the 2001 Jade Solid Gold Awards, Andy declared on stage while making his acceptance speech, "There is someone that I have to thank. I once said to her in her kitchen, 'if only I could win Best Male Artiste, the same day you win Best Female Artiste,' Thank you very much."

His then girlfriend, Hong Kong pop-diva Sammi Cheng, who won Best Female Artiste earlier that evening, was seen crying in the audience after hearing the acceptance speech and rushed backstage.

Rumours started that the couple were seeing each other after they release a duet in 1991 entitled Am I in Your Heart, however Andy revealed an expected turn to the story, "It was natural that we release a duet together since we were under the same recording label. But in fact, our secret relationship started earlier (before the duet was released), contrary to what the rumours said."

The couple started dating in 1990 and ended their fourteen-year-old relationship in 2004. They got back together again earlier this year after spending seven years apart.

Now that they have gotten back together, will they be releasing another duet? "There are no plans at the moment," said Andy.
